Ironwood
Ironwood carving is a unique form of art from the Sororan Desert of Southern Arizona & Northern Mexico. It is handcrafted from the desert ironwood (Olneya Testota).
To be suitable for carving, the wood must be exposed to extreme climate conditions, only found in the desert. Many years of exposure in the hot, dry environment causes the resin to collect, condense, & cure, thus transforming the wood into very dense & heavy ironwood.
The wood is gathered & hand crafted with tools. This requires many long hours of carving, sanding, & polishing....plus an artisic "eye" to capture the real beauty of the Ironwood.
