We are offering a very nice, antique Moro
Kris. This Kris has an exceptional and unusual blade with three very slight
waves on its upper half and a fuller on each side that runs almost to its tip.
The old hand forged blade is unusual in that it appears to have been deferentially
heat treated (much like Japanese blades) to form its hardened edges, rather
than the usual three layered, high carbon center section method that is
commonly used to form the hardened cutting edges on most Moro edged weapons. This
single layered technique also allows this type of blade to be made much thinner
and more flexible than the usual thicker and much heavier laminated Moro blades.
The blade has some very small dark spots that appear to be like minute,
original forging marks that were never polished out, rather than from rust
pitting.
The “Phallic
Style” hilt has a traditional fiber wrapped grip that shows some wear, but is
still very tight and in excellent condition. The grip is offset with a large,
slightly oval shaped ivory pommel.
The nicely carved, very thin hardwood
scabbard has a small part missing from the upper right side of the carved area.
