1890 ANTIQUE Ziegler Generator Medical Magneto Electric

Up on offer is an ANTIQUE Ziegler Electric Co of Boston Mass Generator, Dynamo or some Magneto Electric doo-hickey.

We had a lot of discussion about this, I’m siding with the generator faction while others say this is some medical electric home shock cure therapy machine.

Which and whatever this is – it is nice. Nice looking. Nice condition. An unusual conversation piece.

I don’t know if or how it works and I think I couple of little contact nubs are missing as well as a belt/pulley but none of this should be tough to find or replace

The only similar items we could find were in museums and university displays – nothing in antique stores or auctions – so this might be a little bit of a rarity as it probably wasn’t intended for widespread use. Probably business or schools or laboratories.

Here is a link to that website:

A solid wood base with a cast iron frame and then copper and brass and glass finish it off. There is still a lot of original paint on this as well as the original manufacturer’s tag.

Also, you will notice some tape on the item, this was recently unpacked and the tape was there to keep everything safe, in place and undamaged. I left it on in the event that this will have to be shipped.

This is being sold for reasons of space requirements, not because it needs to be sold. If it doesn’t look like it is going to fetch a decent price than the auction may be ended early because I’m kinda partial to it.

In the event that this does sell:
PLEASE check for a postage estimate as we can’t seem to get the e-Bay postage calculator to display the correct cost. We try to ship at exact postage cost so, in the event that we do overcharge you on postage and we’re off by more than a buck, we refund the entire difference!

============================
We ALWAYS combine on shipping to save on postage.
Shipping varies by location – PLEASE supply your US STATE or Canadian postal code for a shipping estimate.
Pick ups are welcome and appreciated – it saves on packing and PAYPAL fees.
There is a small fee of $2.00 to defray materials, labour, time, gas, and electronic currency exchange gouging.

UPDATE:

I received an e-mail from a kind e-Bayer who advised me that "this item is called a Whimshurst's machine. It was used to demonstrate the effects of static electricity, some machines could generate up to 100,000 volts... "

Thank you Peter!
