Tribal art bone statuette, from the Lega tribe living in eastern DR Congo. Lega statuettes, called "Maginga", are rarely taller than 38 cm(15 inches),and were carved out of wood and bone. Employed during initiation ceremonies, they have a mnemonic function insofar as they assisted in the telling of ancestor stories or in the depiction of proverbs. MATERIAL: Animal bone.
