This is a great looking and finely woven NAVAJO DOUBLE SADDLE BLANKET, from the 1940 range and in excellent condition!
The size of this rug is approximately 59" X 31", with a warp of 8 and a weft of 24. This is a very woven and durable blanket! The warp and the weft are 100% wool.
SELVAGE: The side selvage cords are 100% intact-a twist of two, 2-ply brown wool yarns. The End Selvage Cords are 100% intact as well-a braid of two, 3-ply red wool yarns .
Excellent Condition - NO holes, NO Moth nibbles/grazing/holes, NO notable Fading (the blue has faded some and this is typical for this color/age), NO Bleeding, NO fraying, and NO notable stains.
This rug is made from a combination of hand spun and hand carded natural wools ( the white, grey, and black/brown), and hand spun wools, hand dyed with Aniline Red and Blue (often used by the Navajo for additional color, and obtained from the Trading Posts of the time).
The corner ties are all present with some wear/tear from time/use. The actual corners are in excellent condition.
No odors, clean and ready to display - excellent to near mint condition for age! A great and high quality example of a pre-1950 Navajo Rug - great size for a wall display!
