This nifty collection of 23 all different 2-cent pieces (8 coins) and 3-cent nickel pieces (15 coins) is housed in a copyright 1940 Whitman folder. The previous owner claims to have owned the collection, just as it is, for approximately 60 years. The collection includes 1864LM through 1871 Two-cent pieces, most grading VG or so with the 1866 being VF. The nickel 3-cent pieces include 1865 through 1875, plus the 1879, 1881, 1888, and 1889. The 1865 to 1875 3-centers grade VG to Fine with the 1871 being VF. The 1881 is a Fine or so. The scarce, low-mintage 3-centers are: 1879 VF (mintage 38,000); 1888 VF+ (mintage 36,501): and the 1889 VF/XF (mintage 18,125). Close-up images of the three scarce 3-centers are provided. All the coins are sound, evenly worn pieces. Some are little dirty from so many years in the folder, but none have distracting issues of any sort. The condition of the folder is not great, but not coming apart either. Three of the "RARE" plugs have been popped out and one or two ink smears are present. Still, the folder is a nifty piece of Americana and an inexpensive collectable in and of itself. Needless to say, you are bidding for the 23 coins as a group. When shipped the coins will transferred to PVC-free flips, easy to open to remount the collection. (If shipped still in the folder, some of the coins would certainly shake out in travel.) Put away this interesting old-timer's set. This item opens with a token bid and there is no reserve. We do not end auctions early for the purpose of a quick sale.
