Greetings everyone and welcome! Thanks for stopping by to take a peek at my most recent dollie creation.
Lizzie Borden took an axe,And gave her Mother forty whacks,
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her Father forty-one.
It was a hot summer day on August 4, 1892 in Fall River, Massachusetts. Around 10:45 a.m., Andrew J. Borden returned to his family home after tending to some business dealings. Little did he know that his 2nd wife, Abby, lay dead on the floor in the upstairs guest bedroom, a victim of a brutal axe murder.....and that her grisly fate would soon await him. At the time, there were only two other people in the home.....the maid and Andrew's 32 year old spinster daughter...Lizzie Borden.
Lizzie would go on to be charged with the gruesome murders and stand trial. The case against Lizzie was clearly circumstantial and although she was eventually acquitted, no one else was ever tried for the crimes....and Lizzie went on to become one of the most notorious figures in American folklore.
You know, I started off this week with a completely different set of dollie plans in mind....but by Monday night I realized that Lizzie Borden's birth date was fast approaching (July 19, 1860) and I just couldn't let it pass by without some sort of acknowledgement. She's just such a creepy character in history. So....all of the others dollies were set aside in order to make way for Birthday Lizzie!
If you're not familiar with Lizzie Borden, please go search out some of the great websites that document her story. It's very fascinating and is probably one of the most intriguing unsolved murder cases in American history. (I'm such a history geek) Even the house where the murders occurred has been turned into a Bed & Breakfast and was voted America's #1 Creepiest Destination.

Birthday Lizzie is an Enchanted Productions Original One of a Kind and she will not be reproduced. She will arrive at your home signed and dated, along with her Certificate of Authenticity and a copy of the story which appears in this auction.

Lizzie is sewn of painted osnaburg muslin and features the Enchanted Productions 3-D eyes and hand painted facial features. She has been securely attached to a black painted beehive bobbin.

Her hair is salt and pepper brown curly sheep's wool that I've needle felted and styled into a Victorian bun in the back. I've used the curly sheep's wool in order to add the fuzzy curls that frame Lizzie's face.

Lizzie's classic black Victorian style mourning dress is sewn of black Dupioni silk and features a black tulle underskirt. The black lace collar and flounce was created in three separate pieces and entirely hand stitched into place.

To give Lizzie that festive birthday appearance, I've created an orange and black polka dot party hat. Her hat is removable and features a black tulle pom-pom and black vintage ribbon ties.

Lizzie's birthday cake was just so much fun to create! It is all hand sculpted of paper clay, sanded, painted and features tiny hand made black candles. The candles are made of wooden dowels, are decorated with orange crepe paper at the base and have tiny hemp cord wicks.

I have sculpted the cake to look like fondant icing. The front of the cake features a soft drape, which I've painted a soft orange and there are two tiny skulls at each corner.

The birthday cake bottom is covered with black crepe paper and the cake itself, rests atop a leaded crystal candle stick.

NOTE* the candle stick is a wonderful vintage shoppe find and does have a few small rough spots around the bottom edge.

Of course, Lizzie needed something to cut her birthday cake with.....wink wink......so I decided to sculpt a tiny little ax of paper clay. It is attached to a small wooden dowel, which I even whittled into the shape of an ax handle. Yes...I whittled it all by myself! It was also sanded and painted and is attached to Lizzie's left hand with a tiny wire.

****Because of the fragile state of the birthday cake.......this doll will be shipped in 2 seperate boxes and insurance is required.****
****Please Note: My dolls are created for display purposes ONLY and are NOT intended for children.****
***As always....I use only the highest quality fabrics and supplies to create for you the best doll possible! Each one is filled with many hours of thought, labor and love....with extra special attention given to detail.***
Enchanted Blessings to you all!
