DESCRIPTION
Offered for sale is this superb, Georgian, C18th, oval miniature, mourning, painted portrait brooch. Circa 1785.
A super piece, as you can see from the photos, the miniature is finely painted, depicting a Lady, wearing white dress trimmed with blue, white fichu and lace tucker. Her brown hair curled and worn long. Mounted in a gold oval frame. The reverse with a glazed panel, covering a mourning panel of her plaited hair. Original fittings for use as a pendant or brooch.
The portrait is worked, on what you would expect [unmentionable]. Gold is slightly rose gold in colour, it is not marked, but tests as gold. The original working pin and 'c' catch are present, as well as hanging loop. Both are in good working order.
Measures 2 inches by 1 & 5/8 inches approx. [not including pendant hanging loop].
Condition
The condition is very good. Tiny fragments of dust trapped beneath the glass, would benefit from a clean, if access is at all possible. Some white age residue to the glass hair panel to the reverse. But overall, extremely good condition!!!
